LEWISTON, Idaho—After dropping the first two games, the Concordia University volleyball team opened the season with a 3-2 (24-26, 10-25, 25-23, 25-18, 15-12) win over Westmont at the Holiday Inn Express Tournament on Friday at the Lewis-Clark State College Activity Center.

“We switched the lineup around to see how they would respond and they steadied out on the court,” head coach Christopher Duenow said. “It’s a testimony to the depth and character of the team to look at it and see that there’s a chance to go in there and make a difference.”

Statistics for the match were not immediately available.

In the second match of the evening, Josi Lyman and Anile Clemente’s combined for 22 kills to help No. 16 Lewis-Clark State to a 3-0 (25-15, 25-14, 25-15) sweep over Concordia in the evening match of the Holiday Inn Express Tournament at the Lewis-Clark State College Activity Center.

“We were a little gun-shy and did not come out with a lot of purpose,” Concordia head coach Christopher Duenow said. “LC State is a young team, but they came out as the aggressor. We will need to learn to be more determined.”

Lindsey Fryer led the Cavaliers with seven kills in 18 attacks. Freshmen Skyler Kamaka and Erica Ford each reached double digits in digs with Ford recording a match-high 14. Kamaka also posted a match-high 19 assists.

Following LCSC at 2-0 in the tournament, Northwest, Westmont and Concordia all stand 1-1, while Corban is 0-2.

Action continues on Saturday with four matches. Northwest at LCSC begin play at 11 a.m., followed by Westmont and Corban at 1 p.m. Concordia takes on Northwest at 3 p.m., followed by Westmont at LCSC at 6 p.m.
