Owls Escape Simpson Scare
Ashland, Ore. – After bouncing back from a three-set loss in the opening match of the Raider Classic to the top-ranked team in the NAIA, the Oregon Tech volleyball team picked up their first win of the 2008 season outdistancing Simpson University of Redding, Calif. in five sets (25-21, 20-25, 25-16, 23-25, 15-7) in their final match of the Raider Classic in Ashland.
Nicole Andrews (SR. Chehalis, WA) and Krista Wooley (SR. Reedsport, OR) both finished the night with their first double-doubles of the season with Andrews finishing with a team high 14 kills and 10 digs, followed by 12 kills and a season high 23 digs for Wooley. Megan Christensen (SO. Klamath Falls, OR) recorded a career high 10 kills for the Owls, while setters Lizzie Law (SR. Kennewick, WA) tallied 26 assists and Jackie Polette (FR. Helena, MT), playing in her first collegiate contest, recorded 15 assists. Katy Nelson (FR. Klamath Falls, OR) recorded a career high 12 digs, while last seasons digs leader, Krystie Vea (JR. Honolulu, HI), tied a team high digs total with 23.
Oregon Tech will again meet up with Simpson University on Tuesday August 26th in Redding before heading to Las Vegas where they will play Pacific Union College and Huntington University, IN on Friday August 29th and NCAA III Albion College and NCAA II Northern State University on Saturday August 30th in this years Las Vegas Blast Tournament. The Owls will begin Cascade Conference action at home versus Eastern Oregon and league favorite College of Idaho September 5th and 6th with a 7:00 pm start.
