ASHLAND, Ore. -- Dominican University scored a pair of second half goals to knock off Southern Oregon 3-1 today at University Field.

The match was the season opener for both Southern Oregon and Dominican, which had received votes in the NAIA Preseason Top 25 poll.

Southern Oregon jumped on board first, taking a 1-0 lead at the 13:32 mark on a goal by Denise Powell. Sophomore Mo Costello found Powell on the right wing and Powell buried the shot from 20 yards out.

Dominican got on the board at 19:30 on an own goal by SOU and score remained 1-1 until the second half.

In the second half, Taylor Houston found her way out of a scramble in front of the net to put in a shot from eight yards out to give Dominican its first lead at 2-1 at the 73:34 mark. Dominican added another goal at 87:37 on a goal from Anika Lindemuth.

SOU freshman goalie Jessica Kuehlwein finished with eight saves and Katie Griffith had five shots.

SOU travels to Southern California next weekend for matches against Vanguard, Westmont and Concordia (Calif.).
