C of I Spikers Drop Five-Set Match with NCAA D-II Mesa State
SALT LAKE CITY -- Alisan Tompkins had 18 kills and 14 digs, leading NCAA Division II Mesa State to a five-set victory over The College of Idaho 25-21, 25-17, 19-25, 20-25, 15-10, in the final match of the 2008 NAIA Tournament of Champions here.
It marked the first time that the Lady Yotes had lost a match against an unranked opponent since the 2005 season - as the 64-match win streak went by the wayside, as the Mavericks used a four-point push in the final set to break a 7-7 tie.
Sarah Buhler led the Yotes with 14 kills, with Kathryn Ely adding 11 and Kristin Henning recording 11 kills and nine blocks. Madie Machurck had 42 assists and eight digs, Courtney Gamel had 17 digs, and Stacie Drumm added 15 digs in the loss.
The Lady Yotes return to action next weekend in San Diego, Calif., at the Seaside Invitational - where they'll meet Mount Marty (S.D.), Ashford (Iowa), No. 8 Point Loma Nazarene, and No. 10 Madonna (Mich.)
