OAKLAND, Calif. - Jamie Reichel recorded a hat trick and Mandy Greif added three assists, as The College of Idaho women's soccer team recorded their most prolific scoring game in five years, routing Mills College, 8-1, in the season opener for both teams.
Despite a 17-2 edge in shots during the first half, the Lady Yotes (1-0) were held scoreless until the 40th minute, when the sophomore Reichel scored an unassisted goal to give The C of I the lead.
Back-to-back goals from senior Emily Dickerson in the first five minutes of the second half ballooned the lead to 3-0. Reichel added two more tallies, with senior Allie Dufault, and freshmen Chelsea Heffner and Kelly Hardegree-Ullman each scoring one.
The Yotes had a commanding 41-5 edge in shots over the Cyclones (0-1), including 24-4 on goal - while recording all seven corner kicks in the game. It was the most goals scored by a C of I team since 2003, when the Lady Yotes defeated Cascade, 8-1.
Tomorrow, the team meets Holy Names University, also in Oakland, at 3 p.m. (PDT)
