Concordia pushed No. 16-ranked Lewis-Clark State to five sets on Friday.
Concordia Settles for Split; Northwest Wins Pair at Fairfield Inn Invitational Volleyball Tourney
PORTLAND, Ore.— After sweeping Montana State-Northern in the team’s afternoon opener, the host Concordia Cavaliers dropped a three-set match against Lewis-Clark State to conclude first-day action at the Fairfield Inn and Suites Portland-North Harbour Invitational Volleyball Tournament.
Lewis-Clark State and Northwest each went 2-0 on the day while Holy Names University and Montana State-Northern dropped both matches.
The Cavaliers cruised by the MSU-Northern (25-8, 25-7, 25-18) in 69 minutes while only yielding 15 points in the first two sets. A trio of CU players reached double figures in kills for the match with Raluca Dinca leading the way with 13. Skyler Kamaka led the court with 22 assists and added three aces and six digs.
In the nightcap against Lewis-Clark State, Concordia bounced back from an opening-set setback to pull ahead 2-1, but the No. 16-ranked Warriors rallied in the fourth and the fifth set to complete the comeback (25-16, 21-25, 23-25, 25-13, 15-10). Returning third-team All-American Anile Clemente paced the LC State attack with 17 kills. Kamaka netted a match-high 36 assists and Cavalier Kim Lindow and Warrior Lindsay Scott each posted 20 digs.
Northwest obtained a pair of wins after fighting off Holy Names 3-2 (26-24, 21-25, 20-25, 25-17, 15-8) in the morning match and returned to the court to dismiss MSU Northern in three sets (25-22-25-22, 25-15).
Defending Frontier Conference champion, LC State also seized a pair of victories with a 3-0 (25-11, 25-15, 25-14) win over Holy Names before toppling the host Cavaliers.
The final day of action at the Fairfield Inn and Suites Invitational Tournament begins at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday in the Cavalier Gymnasium when Holy Names faces MSU Northern. Concordia will wrap up the evening when it takes on Holy Names at 7 p.m.
Cost of daily admission to the tournament will be $7 for adults and $5 for students and seniors. Concordia students and children under 12 will receive free admission.
