Concordia On Top After Day 1 of Tourney Concludes
OLYMPIA, Wash. - Concordia (OR) defeated Carroll College 5-1 to take the lead in the Arno Zoske Soccer Classic after Saturday's conclusion of games.
Simon Fraser University (BC) stands in second following their victory over Rocky Mountain College.
Six points are awarded to the winning team plus 1 point (3 points max) for every point scored. Additional points are awarded for shutouts and tie games.
With both teams high ranked in the NAIA, Concordia's high scoring win was a surprise to Carroll. Concordia and Carroll are ranked 5th and 6th respectively in the pre-season NAIA polls.
Carroll won the Zoske Tourney in '06.
The Evergreen State College lost to Thompson Rivers University (BC) 1-0 under rainy skies. The Wolfpack's Val Goddard scored the wining goal for her team.
SFU defeated Rocky Mtn. on Friday evening 2-1.
Tournament play resumes tomorrow at 10 AM when Concordia and Rocky Mountain match up. Evergreen plays Carroll at 6 PM.
