Cavalier Harriers Open Season at WOU Summer's End Invite; Men, Women Place 3rd

MONMOUTH, Ore.— Toeing the line for the first time this fall, the Concordia University cross country season kicked off the racing season at the Western Oregon Summer's End Invite held on Friday.
Both teams finished the day in third place out of four teams with the CU men tallying 77 points and the women 80. The University of Portland captured team crowns in both races by handily defeating the host Wolves.
Portland’s Alfred Kipchumba took home the individual championship on the men’s side by crossing the line in 24 minutes, 14.20 seconds for the 8,000-meter course. Tim Badley, a former All-American while competing for Concordia, placed second at 24:37.80.
Charles Cummings paced the Cavaliers with an eighth-place result with a time of 25:24.70. Martin Romero-Clark finished four spots later with a 25:38.50.
Linfield’s Marci Klimek successfully warded off five Pilots as the University of Portland placed runners 2-6 behind the champion. Klimek finished the 5,000-meter distance in 18:39.60, more than a 13-second advantage over runner-up Lyndy Davis.
Competing in their first races as a Cavalier Linsie Michels and Andria Scheese were the first to cross for Concordia with Michels touring the course in 19:28.20 in seventh place and Scheese in 19:48.60 for an 11th-place result. Alice Taylor slipped into the top 15 for CU with a 19:53.20 in the 14th position.
The Cavaliers return to competition on Sept. 13 when they race at the Lewis & Clark Pioneer Open in Estacada, Ore.
