Concordia Defeats Holy Names 3-0 in Fairfield Inn and Suites Tournament Finale
PORTLAND, Ore.—In the final match of the evening, Concordia University defeated Holy Names 3-0 (25-10, 25-23, 25-20) while the Lewis-Clark State volleyball squad captured the tournament championship after going undefeated in four matches at the Fairfield Inn and Suites Portland-North Harbour Invitational Tournament.
On Friday, the Warriors swept Holy Names (25-11, 25-15, 25-14) before withstanding a five-set match against the host Concordia University Cavaliers (25-16, 21-25, 23-25, 25-13, 15-10). On Saturday, the team returned to form by notching a pair of sweeps to cruise to the tourney title. LC State opened with a 3-0 (25-17, 25-12, 25-20) win against Northwest before recording a 3-0 (25-15, 25-7, 25-15) victory against Montana State-Northern.
The Warriors were led by all-tournament team selection Lindsay Scott and tournament MVP Anile Clemente.
Concordia and fellow Cascade Collegiate Conference school Northwest each finished 2-1. Holy Names won a single match in four attempts while Montana State-Northern dropped four matches.
“It was a productive weekend for the team,” Concordia head coach Christopher Duenow said. “They really showed flashes of the level of play we expect to see more consistently as the season progresses. When we are committed to playing as a team our entire roster is capable of contributing on any given night and that diversity allows us to do a lot of different things.”
The Cavaliers were led by all-tournament selections Skyler Kamaka and Lindsey Fryer. Concordia returns to the court on Sept. when it hosts Northwest University in the conference opener for both squads.
