FOREST GROVE, Ore.— With shot attempts limited in the first period, the Concordia women’s soccer team came out firing in the second period en route to a 2-0 win over Pacific University on Thursday.

With their fourth straight win, fifth-ranked (NAIA) Concordia improved to 5-0-1 on the season while the host Boxers dropped to 0-3-0 on the young season.

“It was a tale of two halves tonight,” Concordia head coach Grant Landy said. “Pacific made it difficult for us to play in the first half with a lot of numbers behind the ball and physical play. We had a chance to talk things out and we made some tactical improvements and the team put in the extra work to open it up.”

Shea Miller erased the shutout with a successful conversion off a corner kick provided by Angie Turner in the 57th minute. Just over two minutes later another combination ignited by Turner gave the Cavaliers a 2-0 advantage.

Off another corner, Turner placed the ball to Brittany Orr who in turn gave a touch pass to Kaitlyn Tebbs to create the two-goal spread with just over 20 minutes to play.

“It feels good that we can make adjustments and come out and change the game because not every game goes perfectly according to plan,” Landy said. “I’m proud of how they took on the responsibility.”

For the game, Concordia outshot the Boxers 20-3, including a 14-1 difference in the second period. The Cavaliers also took a dozen corner kicks compared to a single attempt from their counterparts. Miller extended her team lead with her fifth goal of the season while Tebbs claimed her first of the year.

“It was great to see Kaitlyn (Tebbs) step her game up and take advantage of the opportunity,” Landy said. “We are going to need her ability on offense as the season progresses.”

Concordia returns to action on Sept. 13 when it hosts Concordia-Irvine in a non-conference match at Tualatin Hills Park and Rec. Kickoff is set for 3 p.m. in Beaverton, Ore.

Concordia-Irvine entered the week with a 3-0 record and ranked No. 24 in the NAIA. The Eagles will face No. 8 Simon Fraser at Tualatin Hills Park and Rec on Sept. 12 at noon before facing the Cavaliers on Saturday.
