SALEM, Ore. – Senior Rachel Gowen (Oregon City, Ore.) and sophomore Teri Braun (Dallas, Ore.) combined for 21 kills and six blocks, as Corban's women's volleyball team defeated NCAA Division III member Lewis & Clark, 3-0 (25-23, 25-22, 25-23), Friday night inside the C.E. Jeffers Sports Center to extend its home winning streak to three matches.

In tonight's mini-break from Cascade Collegiate Conference action, Gowen registered a match-high 11 kills to go along Braun's season-high tying 10 kills.

In the opening set, Corban jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead before Lewis & Clark used a 4-0 run to take a 4-2 lead. The visiting Pioneers went on to extend their lead to as much as four points (16-12) before Corban battled back to tie the set at 17-all following a kill by Braun. Following her kill, Braun stepped behind the service line and helped guide the Warriors to three straight points to give the home squad a 20-17 lead. After a Pioneer timeout, Corban extended its lead to four points (22-18) before Lewis & Clark used a 5-0 run to take a one-point lead (23-22). After second-year head coach Heather Dunn called her second and final timeout of the set, Corban reeled off three straight points to take the opening set by two (25-23).

In the second set, Corban took an early two-point lead (4-2) following a kill by senior Rashelle Davenport (Kalama, Wash.) and then continued to hold the lead until Lewis & Clark went up by a point (10-9). Trailing by two points (13-11), Corban used a 7-0 run to take an 18-13 lead that was highlighted by a pair of kills each by Braun and senior Chelsea Reeher (Powell Butte, Ore.). Over the next eight points, Lewis & Clark used a 6-2 run to knot the set at 19-all before Corban's 6-1 run handed the Warriors an insurmountable 24-20 lead. Despite a pair of points by the visiting Pioneers, Corban closed out the set on a solo block by Davenport to give the Warriors the victory (25-22).

In the third and final set, Lewis & Clark jumped out to an 8-3 lead and then extended it to 17-12 before Corban used a 7-2 run to tie the final set at 19-19. A 3-1 run by the host Warriors handed Corban a 22-20 lead that Lewis & Clark erased via an identical 3-1 run of its own that knotted the set at 23-all. A kill by Reeher and a match-ending kill by Braun handed the Warriors a two-point victory (25-23) and the match in a three-set sweep.

Along with Gowen and Braun, three other Warriors -- Davenport, Reeher, and freshman Tiffany Land (Independence, Ore.) -- added 7, 5, and 5 kills respectively. Freshman Megan Dees (Tehachapi, Calif.) handed out a match-high 22 assists to go along with junior Amy Thompson's (Oregon City, Ore.) 10-assist, 8-dig performance. Sophomore and reigning CCC Libero of the Week Rebecca Franke (Pendleton, Ore.) anchored the Warriors' back line with a match-high tying 12 digs, while Gowen controlled the net with a match-high six blocks that included three solo and three assist stuffs.

Lewis & Clark was led by Kelsey Clark's 10 kills, while Margaret Dowling and Katherine Fielder added 8 and 5 kills respectively. Melody Keyser and Andrea Chase combined to hand out 23 assists, while Lou Okhi tied Franke for the match-high in digs with 12. At the net, Fiedler registered a team-high five blocks (all assist) as the visiting Pioneers combined to register 9.5 blocks as a team.

With the victory, Corban improves to 4-4 overall, while Lewis & Clark falls to 5-6 overall. The Warriors return to conference action on Saturday, September 13th, when they travel south to Eugene to take on the Beacons of Northwest Christian beginning at 7:00 p.m. inside the Morse Event Center.
