#18 OIT Sweeps Northwest U.

KIRKLAND, Wash. – A hot and talented #18  Oregon Tech team lived up to their billing as they shut out Northwest University, 3-0 (25-16, 25-20, 25-19) tonight in Cascade Conference volleyball play. It was there third straight conference  win as they improved their record to 8-2 on the season, 3-0 in Cascade Conference play.
 
OIT jumped out to an early 8-3 lead in the first game but Northwest came back to tie it up 10-10, but after a time out, the Owls went on a 10-2 run to take the lead once again at 20-12 and Northwest couldn’t make up the lost ground as OIT breezed to the 25-16 win.
 
In the second game, two kills by Krista Wooley, two service aces by Anna Leal and a kill by Megan Christensen put the #18 Owls in the lead 5-0. They increased their lead to 10-5 before NU came back to get within 2 and make the score, 12-10, but another OIT 5-0 run made it 17-10. NU made the score 22-18 on their own 8-5 run, but the solid Owls finished off the Eagles to win game #2, 25-20.
 
In game #3, Northwest broke out to an early 8 to 5 lead, but OIT tied the game at 10-10 and took the lead back, 11-10 on NU’s Anu Akamine’s hitting error. With OIT up 13-11, NU scored 3 straight points to regain the lead 14-13 on two attack errors by OIT’s Megan Christensen. With the game tied at 14, OIT took the lead for good on Anna Leal’s kill and Megan Christensen’s kill on game and match point sealed the win for the Owls.
 
Oregon Tech (8-2, 3-0 CCC) was led by Krista Wooley with her game high 19 kills, a 38% hitting percentage and 10 digs. Teammate Lizzie Law had a game high 32 assists on the night for the Owls.
 
Freshman Anu Akamine (Hauula, Hawaii) led Northwest U. (3-7, 0-3 CCC) with 9 kills while sophomore Lauren Holtz (Brier, WA/Inglemoor HS) contributed 8 kills for the Eagles. Libby Hellwig (Jr., Exeter, Calif.) had 10 digs for NU.
