CCC Players of the Week Named for Sept. 8-14

The following Cascade Collegiate Conference student-athletes were recognized as conference Players of the Week in their respective sports for the period Sept. 8-14.

Men’s Soccer

Offensive – Northwest senior Micah Williams (Sacramento, Calif.) was the CCC’s Offensive Player of the Week following his output in a 1-0-1 record last week. Williams had two goals and an assist in a 5-2 win at Walla Walla after assisting on NU’s lone goal in a 1-1 tie with Whitman. Other nominees: Bryan Iotte, Concordia; Fernando Karczeski, Corban.

Defensive – Corban junior Aaron Franklin (Red Bluff, Calif.) was the CCC Defensive Player of the Week after posting consecutive shutouts. Franklin totaled 13 saves in 200 minutes, and extended his scoreless streak to 208 minutes. He had 11 saves in a 0-0 draw with La Verne and added two more in a 5-0 CCC victory over Northwest Christian. Other nominees: Tyler Peake, Concordia.

Women’s Soccer

Offensive – Northwest Christian freshman Karli Vath (South Lake Tahoe, Calif.) was named the CCC’s Offensive Player of the Week for the second time this season. Vath set a school record with four goals against Mills, and recorded the fastest hat trick in NCU history by scoring three times in the first 10 minutes of the match. Vath had two goals and two assists in a 5-4 OT win over Simpson, including the game-winner in extra time. She finished last week with six goals and four assists in two matches. Other nominees: Macy Egerman, College of Idaho; Kate Green, Evergreen; Natalie Haddix, Corban; Shea Miller, Concordia; Lauren Robideau, Eastern Oregon.

Defensive – Concordia senior Jackie Pronovost (Milwaukie, Ore.) was recognized as CCC Defensive Player of the Week. With Pronovost patrolling the back line, CU allowed six total shots and just two shots on goal as the Cavs posted shutout victories over Pacific and No. 24 Concordia-Irvine. Pronovost had her second assist of the season on the eventual game-winning score vs. Concordia-Irvine. Other nominees: Karyn Allen, Corban; Sonya Daisley-Harrison, Evergreen; Lauren Winterholler, College of Idaho.

Volleyball

Player – College of Idaho junior Kristin Henning (Boise, Idaho), who set a school record with 14 kills in 14 swings in a victory over Warner Pacific, is the CCC Player of the Week. Henning, who did not have a hitting error over the weekend, was one off the NAIA single-game record for hitting percentage in the match vs. WPC. She totaled 20 kills in 24 total attacks in two matches. Other nominees: Lindsey Fryer, Concordia; Rachel Gowen, Corban; Krista Wooley, Oregon Tech; Mia Wortel, Southern Oregon.

Libero –Eastern Oregon junior Sareena Simpson (Meridian, Idaho) was honored as CCC Libero of the Week after totaling 22 digs and 10 service aces as the No. 22-ranked Mountaineers completed three-game sweeps of Cascade College and Warner Pacific. Other nominees: Erica Ford, Concordia; Rebecca Franke, Corban; Whitney Owen, College of Idaho.

Setter – Southern Oregon junior Lindsey Stone (Ashland, Ore.), the reigning CCC Player of the Year, was named the CCC Setter of the Week after recording 75 assists in three matches, including 44 in a sweep of Evergreen and Northwest. Stone also had 31 assists in a non-conference loss at Western Oregon. Other nominees: Megan Dees, Corban; Jessica Lea, Eastern Oregon; Naomi Reimer, College of Idaho.

Cross Country

Male – Concordia senior Eric Burck (Ephrata, Wash.) was the CCC Runner of the Week after winning the individual title at the Lewis & Clark Invitational in Estacada. Burck led a 1-2-3 Cavalier finish, as Concordia emerged with a narrow, one-point victory over host Lewis & Clark. Burck’s time of 25:07.20 was a lifetime best for the 8K distance. Other nominees: Caleb Goins, Corban; Brian Rakestraw, Evergreen.

Female – Concordia junior Andria Scheese (Milwaukie, Ore.) earned CCC Runner of the Week honors after helping CU to the team title at the Lewis & Clark Invitational in Estacada. Scheese placed third overall and was CU’s second runner across the line. Scheese covered the 6,000-meter distance in 22:59.60. CU defeated nine other squads – five from the NCAA level – in posting the first title in the three-plus seasons it has fielded a team. Other nominees: Ana Casillas, Evergreen; Courtney Welling, Corban.
