PORTLAND, Ore - Cascade College powered past Walla Walla in straight sets (25-17, 25-12, 25-23) thanks to 12 service aces and a 7-0 advantage in blocks, securing their third win of the season.
The T-Birds had 35 kills versus 13 errors on the night, while the visiting Wolves managed a .050 hitting percentage.
Set one was close early on until Meagan Stanley served Cascade to 5 straight points to put the game out of reach. Natalie Forgan had 4 kills without an error in the frame.
Set two was all Thunderbirds as Natalie Staggs stepped to the service line with the game tied at 4-4 and served the hosts to 9 in row, including 3 aces. Meagan Stanley spiked home 5 kills in the set, while WWU had just 5 as a team versus 9 errors.
Walla Walla had a notion to prolong the match in set 3, forging leads of 16-12 and 20-16 behing the hitting of Natalle Wilkening who had 6 kills in the frame. Trailing by 4, freshman Noelle Lehman subbed in to serve Cascade to five straight points and take a 21-20 lead. After trading side outs, Forgan scored the winning kill to give the T-Birds the victory.
Forgan hit for a match high 13 kills versus just 1 error for a .600 percentage. Stanley added 9 kills, and Carla Crowder touched up 27 assists. Staggs added to her team leading blocks with 1 solo and 2 assists.
Wilkening led WWU with 9 kills, and Torrey Haddad contributed 23 assists
