Neeser Nets Goal in 3rd Annual Soccer Under the Lights
BOX SCORE
SALEM, Ore. – Sophomore Genessa Neeser (Pocatello, Idaho) scored her first goal of the season in the second minute, as Corban's women’s soccer team won against the Beacons of Northwest Christian, 1-0, in the 3rd Annual Soccer Under the Lights game Thursday evening at Warrior Field.
The Warriors got on the board quickly, as freshman Brittney Bowman (Shelton, Wash.) sent a cross into the NCU goal box that Neeser was able to tap by Beacon goalkeeper Katelyn Nistler for an early Warrior lead just two minutes into the game.
Corban continued their offensive pressure following the early goal, as the Warriors out-shot Northwest Christian by nine (11-2) in the first 45 minutes. However, neither team could capitalize on their chances, and Corban took a one-goal lead into halftime.
The second half saw more of the same, as the Corban managed 11 more shots compared to Northwest Christian’s three. The Warriors had several near misses, including a floating shot by freshman Natalie Haddix (Santa Rosa, Calif.) that caromed off the crossbar in the 79th minute.
Corban senior keeper Karyn Allen (Merlin, Ore.) stood between the pipes for the Warriors for the entire 90 minutes and tallied four saves, while NCU's Nistler registered a game-high six saves for the Beacons.
With the win, Corban improves to 3-4-0 on the season, including 1-0-0 in Cascade Collegiate Conference play. Meanwhile, Northwest Christian moves to 3-6-0, with a 0-1-0 record in CCC action. The Warriors will be back on the pitch on Saturday, September 20th, when the Warriors travel to Ashland, Ore. to take on the Hawks of Holy Names University in a neutral site non-conference match set to begin at 1:00 p.m. on the campus of Southern Oregon University.
