EUGENE, Ore. – The College of Idaho put up six goals on Friday night, earning a victory in their first conference game of the season, a 6-1 defeat of host Northwest Christian University. The Beacons were out-shot 26-5 on the evening.

The scoring began early when Antonio Bautista got on the board in the 7th minute. Jesus Lopez followed in the 17th minute with what amounted to the game winner, and just four minutes later Garga Caserta fired in a long free kick, which put the Yotes ahead 3-0.

The scoring continued for C of I in the second half in the 53rd minute as Travis Newbold collected a ricochet off of NCU keeper Jared Frasier after a free kick by Lopez, and punched in the score. In the 69th minute the Yotes made it 5-0 on a successful penalty kick for James Collet.

Northwest Christian was able to avoid the shutout in the 75th minute on a laser beam free-kick from Shane Dasher from 30-yards out. The shot came in at a left-to-right angle and found its way to the top shelf in the right corner of the net for the score.

The College of Idaho answered with the games’ final score just two minutes later. Esteban Cabrera hit a shot off the right post and Emir Kobic scooped up the rebound and punched in the score.

After the contest, Head Coach Chris Bolton said, “Our guys are really growing and beginning to learn to play within themselves. For the first few games they were playing too tight and were too worried about what the coaches were thinking and what exactly they were supposed to be doing at all times. Now they are starting to just play soccer and play the game within our system. There are going to be mistakes with a young team and you can’t really get upset at an outcome like this because the team continues to learn and grow.”

Northwest Christian (1-4-1, 0-2 CCC) will be back in action on Wednesday as they travel to Portland to continue Cascade Collegiate Conference action against Cascade College. The College of Idaho (2-2-1, 1-0) will play at Oregon Tech on Saturday.
