Cascade dropped a five-set match to Warner Pacific in the CCC opener for both teams Tuesday.
Warner Pacific Edges Cascade In Five-Set Thriller
PORTLAND, Ore. - Warner Pacific outlasted Cascade with a five-set win in exciting conference volleyball action at the Thunderdome Tuesday night. The seesaw affair was complete with numerous momentum shifts and nail-biting moments as the Thunderbirds fell 21-25, 25-20, 25-17, 15-25, 12-15. The match was the CCC opener for both teams.
After losing the opening set, Cascade (0-2) earned wins in sets 2 and 3 thanks to Meagan Stanley's 12 kills and seemed to have match winning momentum. The visiting Knights had other ideas and bounced back with a decisive fourth-set 4 victory.
With the fifth set tied at 8-8, WPC (3-0) reeled of three points via two kills and and ace by Michelle Egan to open up a lead that the T-Birds coould not overcome.
Stanley finished with a match high 18 kills, and Natalie Forgan added 9 putaways. Leah Gradwohl swung for 14 kills to lead Warner Pacific. Knight setter Samantha Kolakowski touched up 41 assists, while Carla Crowder tallied 31 for Cascade.
Cascade will attempt to break through for their first win of the season on Friday vs. Northwest Christian.
