No. 17 Oregon Tech Drops Concordia in Five Sets
Klamath Falls, Ore – In a battle of two of the top teams in the Cascade Conference, the No.17 Oregon Tech Lady Owls stayed perfect in conference play winning in 5 sets 3-2, (22-25, 25-19, 22-25, 25-20, 15-13). With the win Oregon Tech improved to 6-0 in the Cascade Collegiate Conference and 11-2 overall. Concordia drops to 4-2 in the CCC and 8-6 overall.
Krista Wooley (Reedsport, Ore) led the Owls with 21 kills giving her 40 in the last two days. Tech’s Megan Christensen (Klamath Falls, Ore) added 18 kills with setter Lizzie Law (Kennewick, Wash) putting up 54 assists. Oregon Tech had 6 players in double digits in digs. Concordia was led by Mariana Toscano (Portland, Ore) who had 17 kills with Lindsey Fryer (Bremerton, Wash) adding 13 kills in the loss. Skyler Kamaka (Kaneohe, Hawaii) had 49 set assists with Kim Lindow (Gresham, Ore) adding 25 digs. Both teams blocked well with Concordia having 15 team blocks and Oregon Tech 14.
Set 1 saw tech go up 4-2 but a 6-0 run by Concordia led to an OIT timeout with CU leading 8-4. Tech then went on a 5-0 run to go up 9-8. The two teams battled back and forth before a Concordia 8-3 run put the set away 25-22. Set 2 saw The Tech start hot and win going away 25-19. Set 3 was a tough battle as the lead changed hands 11 times with 10 ties before Concordia won 25-22. Set 4 saw OIT go up early 7-3 before CU tied the set at 16. Oregon Tech Freshman Sarah Svedin (Palmer, AK) then had back to back aces for a double ace to give Tech the lead 18-16. Tech finished off CU winning 25-20. Tech kept the momentum and held on for the 15-13 win.
Oregon Tech will host Southern Oregon University (5-1, 7-7) Tuesday night, September 23 at 7:00 pm at Danny Miles Court.
