KIRKLAND, Wash. - The Eagle men shut out The Evergreen State College, 1-0 tonight to get their second straight Cascade Conference win and remain undefeated in conference play, and on top of the conference's North Division with a 2-0 record.

After a scoreless first half, junior Brandon Screen (Bremerton, Wash.) scored the game winner for Northwest U. (4-2-2, 2-0 CCC) at the 56:40 mark off an assist from teammate Tim Starr (Senior, Denver, CO). It was Screen's third goal in two games as he scored two goals on Wednesday night in NU's victory over Corban College.

Northwest out shot Evergreen State 11 to 5 and Evergreen goalkeeper, Matt Stalnik collected 4 saves on the night. NU goalie, Kyle Wall (Junior, Seattle, Wash.) earned the shut out with one save for the contest, his second consecutive shut out this week. Luke Fischer (Freshman, Kalispell, Mont.) had 3 shots, 2 shots on goal as did teammate Brandon Screen with 3 shots, 2 shots on goal.

"This was a solid win for us," commented head coach Gary McIntosh following the game. "Give Evergreen credit, they never quit playing. For us to win 1-0 is a good test of composure and character for the guys and they handled it well tonight. It seemed right from the beginning we would have to find a way to grind out a win," McIntosh continued. "It was a tough one tonight. With the rain and cold, I felt the guys came out a bit flat and we got away from playing the way we want to. We made a few adjustments at the half and then came out playing more of our style of soccer but it still didn't come easy for us. I'm proud of how the guys worked extremely hard to get the shutout and the win. I'm really pleased with our overall effort tonight and it's great to start out conference play at 2-0."

The Eagles will face their first test of the young season when they face Concordia University on September 24 in Kirkland. Concordia trails NU by a half game in the North Division with a 1-0 conference record and a 4-3-1 overall record.
