KIRKLAND, Wash. - #18 ranked Concordia (5-3-1, 2-0 CCC) knocked the Northwest U. Eagles out of a share for the Cascade Conference North Division lead with a 1-0 shutout in the rain at Lake Washington HS Stadium. It was Northwest's (4-3-2, 2-1 CCC) first division loss dropping them to 2-1 and into second place.

The only score of the game came in the 22:17 mark of the first half when Concordia's Bryan Iotte headed one through off a free kick from teammate Lucas Egenwall.

Defense was tough for both sides tonight as only 11 shots were taken in the entire game, 7 by Concordia and 4 by Northwest U. Concordia goalkeeper Garrett Staples earned the shut out victory and had 2 saves on the night for the Cavaliers. NU's Kyle Wall had one save in goal for the Eagles.

"If you enjoy soccer and weren't in the stands, you missed a good game tonight. Concordia is a good side," stated NU head coach Gary McIntosh after the game. "They're ranked 18th in the nation and they played poised and smart the entire game. I am pleased with the way our guys came out to compete tonight. We played smart soccer and with passion for each other. To lose 1-0 to a nationally ranked opponent is nothing to hang our heads about. We go back to work tomorrow with practice and prepare for our game on Saturday."

NU hosts the College of Idaho in a 4:30 p.m. afternoon contest at Lake Washington Stadium following the Eagle women's game with C of I at 2:00 p.m. Concordia plays at Warner Pacific on September 27 in Portland.
