BOX SCORE

SALEM, Ore. – Senior goalkeeper Karyn Allen (Merlin, Ore.) registered a game-high seven saves on 24 shots, but Corban's women's soccer team fell to the NAIA's No. 4-ranked Cavaliers of Concordia, 5-0, Thursday afternoon on Warrior Field in a battle of conference unbeaten.

Heading into today's game, both Corban and Concordia were a perfect 1-0-0 in conference play earlier on after the Warriors defeated Northwest Christian one week ago and Concordia handed Cascade a 5-0 loss on Saturday.

After a scoreless opening 19-plus minutes, Concordia got on the board via a goal by Angie Turner off a combo assist by Justine and Jackie Pronovost. Jackie Pronovost began the play with a long pass from just beyond the midfield stripe up over the defense to her awaiting twin sister, who sent a cross pass just beyond the reach of an out-stretch Allen. Once the ball got past Allen, Turner was wide-open and promptly tapped the shot into the back of the net for the eventual game-winner.

Corban's best scoring opportunities came in the later part of the first half, as freshman Malia Grajeda (University Place, Wash.) took a through pass from sophomore Katie Hanson (Salem, Ore.) and went one-on-one with Concordia's keeper. With no one between her and the goalkeeper, Grajeda dribbled within three yards before unleashing a shot that was deflected over the end line by a diving Cavalier defender to force a Warrior corner kick.

Off the corner kick, sophomore Erin Laughlin (Ephrata, Wash.) sent a perfect lofting pass towards the back of the goal that freshman Amanda Mendenhall (Windsor, Calif.) was able to get a head on. Unfortunately for the Warriors, Mendenhall's scoring attempt sailed up and over the cross bar therefore thwarting any scoring opportunities that the Warriors had against the highly-ranked Cavaliers.

In the waning seconds of the opening half, Jackie Pronovost sent another long ball beyond the Warriors' defense to an oncoming Kelton McFadden. As the first half horn sounded, McFadden flicked the ball up over Allen and into the back of the net for the two-goal advantage of halftime.

Concordia added three more goals in the second half that included goals by Jessica Ramback (66th and 90th minute) and Kaitlyn Tebbs (82nd minute) for the final margin of five goals.

Allen stood between the pipes for the Warriors for the entire 90 minutes en route to tallying her game-high in saves. Meanwhile, Concordia's Georgie Christensen registered a pair of saves for the Cavaliers en route to registering the shutout.

With the loss, Corban falls just below .500 at 4-5-0 overall, 1-1-0 in conference play. Meanwhile, Concordia remains unbeaten at 8-0-1 overall, 2-0-0 in conference action. The Warriors will be back in action on Saturday, September 27th, when they host the Thunderbirds of Cascade in an afternoon soccer double header beginning at approximately 2:30 p.m. on Warrior Field.

NOTE: The men's and women's teams will be hosting Cascade College in an afternoon twinbill that starts at noon with the Warrior-Thunderbird men's game.
