Late Goal Sparks SOU to Third Straight Win
ASHLAND, Ore - The Southern Oregon women’s soccer team used a late goal from Stacy Szeto to score a 1-0 victory over Westminster today at University Field on the SOU campus.
The Raiders have now won three straight and improved to 3-5 overall. SOU hosts Western Oregon Sunday at 2:30 p.m. Westminster fell to 5-6 on the season.
After Westminster controlled the first half, the Raiders came out more aggressive on offense in the second half and a cornerkick by Kelly Cates resulted in the ball bouncing through traffic before Szeto picked up the loose ball and buried it into the back of the net at the 86:16 mark.
The shot by Szeto was one of three shots on goals by the Raiders for the game.
For the majority of the game, freshman goalie Jessica Kuehlwien was the star for the Raiders, turning back numerous Westminster shots.
In the first 45 minutes, Kuehlwien made eight saves and in the second half she came away with five saves. The shutout was Kuehlwien’s second straight blanking of an opponent.
The three-match win streak for the Raiders is the longest since the 2006 team won three in a row.
