SALEM, Ore. – After sophomore Genessa Neeser (Pocatello, Idaho) gave Corban the early advantage with her goal in the 13th minute, the Warrior defense did not give up a single shot in Corban’s women’s soccer team's 1-0 victory over the Lady Thunderbirds of Cascade Saturday on Warrior Field.

Corban got on the board early as sophomore Erin Laughlin’s (Ephrata, Wash.) corner kick was driven home by Neeser with a strong ground shot following a deflection by the Cascade defense.

The Warrior offensive pressure stayed strong throughout the first half, as the Warriors prevented the Lady Thunderbirds from taking a shot. Corban out shot Cascade by eight (8-0) take a one-goal lead into halftime.

The second half showcased Corban’s defensive efforts, as the Warriors were again able to prevent Cascade from registering any shots. The Warriors came close to increasing their lead when junior Marissa Walter’s (Elk Grove, Calif.) shot caromed off the crossbar in the 62nd minute. Corban generated four total shots in the frame compared to Cascade’s zero, as the Warrior defense sealed the win.

Corban senior goalkeeper Karyn Allen (Merlin, Ore.) did not have to make any saves en route to her third shutout of the season. Cascade's net-minder Te Awhina Aranui tallied five saves in her complete-game performance.

With the win, Corban evens its overall record at 5-5-0, including a 2-1-0 mark in Cascade Collegiate Conference play. Meanwhile, Cascade’s record falls to 1-7-2, including 0-2-1 in CCC action. The Warriors will take the field once again on Wednesday, October 1st, when they travel north to Burnaby, British Columbia, to take on the NAIA's No. 12-ranked Clan of Simon Fraser University in a non-conference match set to begin at 4:00 p.m.
