Oregon Tech's Kelly Lewis Scored Twice in Tech's 4-1 Win
Owls Soar Past Beacons 4-1
Klamath Falls, Ore – After a 19day layoff the Oregon Tech women’s soccer team took to the pitch and knocked off the rust in front of a big crowd at Trevor Derrah Field Saturday night. The Owls downed Northwest Christian 4-1 to open up Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) play. With the win Oregon Tech improved to 1-0 in the CCC and 2-6 overall. The loss dropped Northwest Christian to 0-3 in CCC and 3-8 on the young season.
Northwest Christian got the first goal of the game in the 7th min. when Karli Vath (South Lake Tahoe-CA) got behind the Tech defense and buried a shot from 18 yards out to make it 1-0. The Beacons goal seemed to wake up the Oregon Tech defense as it held the Beacons scoreless over the next 84 minutes. Tech got on the scoreboard just three minutes later when Marci Toro (Klamath Falls, OR) scored unassisted to tie the game at 1-1. Oregon Tech dominated the first half with 13 shots to just 1 by Northwest Christian but the half ended tied at 1.
The second half started the way the first half ended with a flurry of Tech shots just missing the Beacons goal until Janelle Stoner (Central Point, OR) scored after a Marci Toro shot was saved by the Beacon goalie only to have Stoner follow her first shot witch deflected off a Beacon defender back to Stoner who didn’t miss the second time scoring in the 56th minute to as Tech took the lead 2-1. Then it turned into the Kelly Lewis (Estacada, CA) show. Lewis scored her first goal when Janelle Stoner sent a ball over the Northwest Christian defense right at the feet of Lewis who scored running in stride past a diving goalie to make it 3-1. Lewis would score again in the 78th minute taking a cross from Sarah Ziegler (Ruch,OR) dribbling past the Northwest Christian goalie then putting away the easy goal to make it 4-1. For the game Oregon Tech out shot the Beacons 30 – 4 also dominating corner kicks 8-1 and fouls 14-7.
The Lady Owls will play again Sunday morning September 28, at 11:00 am against Westminster College at Steen Sports Park in a non-conference game. Northwest Christian will host Warner Pacific on October 1st in Eugene, Ore.
