WOU Escapes With Late Goal
ASHLAND, Ore. -- Western Oregon’s Melinda Ingalis scored with four minutes to play to allow the NCAA Division II Wolves to escape with a 1-0 victory over Southern Oregon today on the SOU campus.
Western Oregon improved to 4-5-1 on the season. Southern Oregon fell to 3-6 overall. The Raiders return to Cascade Conference play next week at College of Idaho (Friday) and Eastern Oregon (Saturday). The Raiders are 1-0 in conference play.
After the two teams played evenly through the first 85 minutes of action, Ingalis came up with the ball in traffic with 86:14 to play and scored the game-winner off an assist from Sam Slezak.
The goal and WOU victory ruined another impressive by SOU freshman keeper Jessica Kuehlwien. The Oregon City product turned back 10 WOU shots on goal. In the last three matches, Kuehlwien has given up just one goal and has recorded 24 saves.
The Raiders finished with 12 shots and six shots on goal, while the Wolves finished with 16 shots and 10 shots on goal.
Freshman Chenin Young and sophomore Chelsie O’Neill both had two shots on goal for the Raiders.
Kristen Werhane led Western with a pair of shots on goal.
