CCC Players of the Week Named in Volleyball, Soccer, Cross Country, Golf
The following Cascade Collegiate Conference student-athletes were recognized as conference Players of the Week in their respective sports for the period Sept. 22-28.
Men’s Soccer
Offensive – Warner Pacific forward Davor Lukic (Portland, Ore.) totaled two goals and two assists as the Knights posted 3-1 CCC victories over Cascade and No. 18 Concordia. Lukic had both of his goals, including the game winner, in the victory over Cascade. He assisted on a pair of goals in the win over Concordia. Other nominees: Antonio Bautista, College of Idaho; Bryan Iotte, Concordia; Fernando Montiel, Cascade; Ayouba Moussa, Corban.
Defensive – Corban junior goalkeeper Aaron Franklin (Red Bluff, Calif.) helped lead the Warriors to an unbeaten week, as the 5-10 keeper posted back-to-back shutouts in wins over Walla Walla (1-0) and Cascade (1-0). Franklin totaled 12 saves in the two matches. Other nominees: Alex Penrod, College of Idaho; Nathan Salveson, Evergreen; Jaxin Skyward, Warner Pacific.
Women’s Soccer
Offensive – Concordia junior forward Jessica Ramback (Mill Creek, Wash.) tallied two goals and three assists as the Cavaliers posted 5-0 victories over Corban and Warner Pacific. The 2007 CCC Offensive Player of the Year, Ramback had two goals and one assist vs. Corban and a pair of assists vs. Warner Pacific. Other nominees: Kelly Hardegree-Ullman, College of Idaho; Kelly Lewis, Oregon Tech; Genessa Neeser, Corban; Tennly Paul-Bowden, Eastern Oregon.
Defensive – Concordia senior defender Jackie Pronovost (Milwaukie, Ore.) was once again an integral component to a Cavalier defense which allowed just four shots on goal in 180 minutes of shutout action. Pronovost helped the fourth-ranked Cavaliers to 5-0 CCC victories over Corban and Warner Pacific. In addition, Pronovost had an assist, her fourth, in the win over Warner Pacific. Other nominees: Karyn Allen, Corban; Sonya Daisley-Harrison, Evergreen; Jessica Kuehlwien, Southern Oregon; Kalah Minter, Eastern Oregon; Lauren Winterholler, College of Idaho.
Golf
Male – Concordia senior Marc Arima (Meridian, Idaho) finished in a tie for 11th place to lead the Cavaliers at the St. Martin’s Invitational last week. Arima carded a 5-over 218 to help the Cavs to a fourth-place finish in a field that included the defending NAIA team champion. Arima’s opening-round 74 was the second-best round of the tournament. Other nominees: Justin Ahrens, Northwest Christian.
Female – Northwest Christian sophomore Ashley King (Blue River, Ore.) finished ninth overall to lead the Beacons at the Linfield Invitational. King shots rounds of 86-83 and was the top CCC finisher in the event.
Volleyball
Player – Southern Oregon senior Mia Wortel (Estacada, Ore.) became just the seventh player in SOU history to go over 1,000 career kills, as the Raiders swept No. 17 Oregon Tech and Northwest Christian. Wortel had nine kills vs. OIT and 13 kills vs. Northwest Christian. Other nominees: Cassie Bishop, Northwest Christian; Grace Deboodt, Eastern Oregon; Natalie Forgan, Cascade; Rachel Gowen, Corban; Kristin Henning, College of Idaho.
Libero – College of Idaho sophomore Whitney Owen (Caldwell, Idaho) registered back-to-back career highs in digs as the Yotes posted 3-0 road victories over Evergreen and Northwest. Owen had 15 digs in the win over the Geoducks, then followed with 16 digs in the win over the Eagles. Other nominees: Rebecca Franke, Corban; Kim Lindow, Concordia; Maggie Rivers, Southern Oregon.
Setter – Southern Oregon junior Lindsey Stone (Ashland, Ore.) earned CCC Setter of the Week honors for the third consecutive week. Stone totaled 75 assists last week as SOU defeated No. 17 Oregon Tech and Northwest Christian. She had 41 assists in the win over the Owls, and is averaging 12.3 assists per set during SOU’s six-match win streak. Other nominees: Whitney Hoff, Northwest Christian; Katie Huston, Evergreen; Skyler Kamaka, Concordia; Jessica Lea, Eastern Oregon; Naomi Reimer, College of Idaho; Amy Thompson, Corban.
Cross Country
Male – Cascade freshman Andrew Schmidt (Yakima, Wash.) was the top Thunderbird at last weekend’s Northwest Classic in Eugene. Schmidt covered the 5,000-meter course in a personal best time of 16:14.
