Warner Pacific Men's Soccer Wins 3rd Straight
FOREST GROVE, Ore. --- The Warner Pacific men’s soccer team overcame a second half deficit thanks to the heroics of Davor Lukic, topping the Pacific Boxers 2-1 to improve their record to 3-1-0 on the year. Pacific falls to 1-1-0.
Pacific jumped out to an early 1-0 lead after Danny Williams netted a slow roller from five yards out in the 7th minute. The Knights recovered to put pressure on the Boxers throughout the first half, recording nine shots throughout the period, but were unable to score as Pacific took the lead into halftime.
The Knights came out as the aggressors in the second half and finally broke through in the 68th minute when Lukic sent a free kick around the Pacific wall and into the left corner of the net from just outside the box after freshman Alija Sacirovic was fouled.
Warner Pacific took the lead just six minutes when Andrew Scott found Lukic on the far left side of the box. Lukic crossed the ball across the penalty area to score his second goal of the afternoon.
The Knights outshot Pacific 19-9 and held a 6-3 advantage in corner Kicks. Lukic lead the way with a game-high four shots, while Scott added three shots. Both Ted Latta and Nick Foutz saw time between the pipes for the Knights, with Latta playing the first half and recording two saves and Foutz posting a scoreless second half.
For the Boxers, Williams paced the way with four shots while Travis Birrell added two shots and an assist.
Warner Pacific returns to action on Saturday, September 6 with a 1:00 PM home match against the University of Great Falls.
