Flat Second Half Dooms Cascade In Opener
PORTLAND, Ore. - It was a tale of two halves as Cascade College saw visting Northwest Nazarene turn a close game into a runaway 5-0 non-conference win today at Williams and Smith field.
Despite controlling a good portion of the first period, Cascade found themselves down 1-0 at the break thanks to an Alex Mageac goal. The T-Birds racked up 7 corner kicks in the first 45 minutes, but came away empty.
The second period was all NNU as the Crusaders effeciently counter attcked and scored 4 goals, including 2 more from Mangeac.
"We played a great first half," said head coach Mike Alfers. "We had several great chances in their box. The second half was a different story, however. Something was amiss in our defense that we must rectify. That being said, NNU is very good. They will be a team to be reckoned with in their conference."
For the game, NNU outshot Cascade 15-10. T-Bird keeper Efrain Vargas made 5 saves, while Crusader netminder Mitch Rice turned away 3.
Cascade heads to California for a three game road trip starting with Bethany Univeristy on Spet. 11th.
