NU Men's Soccer Shuts Out Walla Walla 4-0
KIRKLAND, Wash. - The NU Eagles earned their first win of the season as they shut out Walla Walla University 4-0 last night at Lake Washington Stadium.
Matt Walton go his first of two goals on the night at the 25:40 mark of the first half on an unassisted goal. Shayn Fite made it 2-0 ten minutes later as he put the ball into the net from an assist by Everette Adams. Flavius Sterciuc knocked the ball through at 71:34 in the second half unassisted and Walton ended the scoring with his second goal of the night off an assist from freshman Drew Jensen (75:37). NU out shot WWU 21 to 4. Junior Brian Swanson got his first start of his career and earned the shutout for the Eagles.
Walla Walla golie, Eran Wilson, left the game at the 37:12 mark in the first half after a collision at the goal mouth and was replaced by Aaron Rott who made 5 saves in the second half. Rott, listed as a defender, did an admirable job in goal after taking over for Wilson.
"It took us a while to get into our game but once we started knocking the ball around the way we should the goals started to come," commented head coach Gary McIntosh. "I felt the key to the game was our defense getting their second shutout of the season," McIntosh continued. "Matt Walton scored two and was a real spark for the offense. Shayn Fite scored his first collegiate goal and Flavius scoring made it just a good shooting night for the guys. The team is really banged up right now and we have many injured players but they stuck togther as a team to get the victory and it always feels good to get that first win under your belt," he concluded.
The Eagle host Embry-Riddle University from Prescott, Arizona tomorrow night (Friday) at 7:30 p.m. at Lake Washington.
