KIRKLAND, Wash. – Embry-Riddle (Arizona) scored a 3-0 shut out over host Northwest University tonight in non-conference play at Lake Washington stadium.

Embry-Riddle (3-2) scored first late in the first half (43:23) when Jason Aspelund (Tacoma, WA) put the ball into an open net to put the Eagles into the lead 1-0 and for good. Patrick Parteig (Frankfurt, Germany) scored E-R’s second goal late into the second half at the 65:29 mark off an assist from Nipah Adarkwah (Accra, Ghana) and teammate Felipe Ferreira (Sao Paulo, Brazil) capped the scoring for Embry-Riddle with his unassisted goal 4 minutes and 30 seconds later.

Northwest out shot E-R U. 10 to 9 and had some good opportunities but couldn’t find the goal net. NU played shorthanded the final 21:26 as Wilbur Velasco received his second yellow card of the match resulting in a red card and exit from the game.

“Two games in two nights it tough to play especially when you are a team that has more injured players than healthy ones,” commented head coach Gary McIntosh after the game. “I felt the guys played well for most of the game, and they have no reason to hang their heads. There are small things we need to work on and improve upon,” McIntosh continued. “We still have 12 days before our first conference game and conference games are the ones that count. We will be a much better team because of this loss,” coach McIntosh concluded.

Northwest U. (1-2-1) will travel to Walla Walla next weekend for another non-conference match against Whitman College on September 12.
