Christensen Carries Owls Over Eastern
Klamath Falls, Ore. – In what was a see-saw battle between both Oregon Tech and Eastern Oregon in the 2008 Cascade Conference opener, sophomore Megan Christensen (Klamath Falls, OR) stepped up huge to lift the Owls to a five set win over the Mountaineers 25-10, 16-25, 25-23, 31-29, 15-8.
The Owls were looking to roll EOU after a set one route 25-10, but the Mountaineers would return the favor, winning set two 25-16. The teams would split both set three and four before a momentum changing fifth set went to the home team. In set five, EOU took all the momentum from an exciting set four to go ahead of Tech, opening with a 4-0 lead. After a timeout the Owls would cut the lead to 4-2 before EOU answered to make it 5-2. The tide then changed when the Owls went on an 11-0 run, all but securing the win at 13-5. EOU cut the lead to six points at 14-8 but got no closer, as the Owls closed it out 15-8 in the finale.
Oregon Tech’s Megan Christensen took over when the Owls needed points, finishing the evening with a match high and career high 19 kills. Krista Wooley (Sr. Reedsport, OR) started the conference opener up with a double-double 16 kills and 18 digs, while both Nicole Andrews (Sr. Chehalis, WA) and Anna Leal (Jr. Yreka, CA) finished in double digit kills with 13 and 12 respectively. Libero Krystie Vea (Jr. Honolulu, HI) recorded 25 digs and setter Lizzie Law (Sr. Kennewick, WA) finished with her career high 60 assists in the win for Tech.
Grace Deboodt (Jr. Prineville, OR) recorded a double-double for the Mountaineers with 17 kills to go with her 18 digs. Jessica Lea (Fr. Prineville, OR) finished with 15 kills and 30 assists, while Haley McEnroe (So. Baker City, OR) followed with 13 digs in the loss.
Oregon Tech (6-2, 1-0) will meet College of Idaho (3-5, 0-1) on Saturday September 6th at Danny Miles Court with game time set for 7:00pm.
