Six Geoducks Place in Top 15 at St. Martin's Invitational

LACEY, Wash. - Six Geoducks placed in the top 15 in separate races at today's St. Martin's Cross Country Invitational here. Seven college teams were represented in the meet.

In the women's 6K race, junior Ana Casillas finished seventh overall in 24:39, freshman Karissa Carlson placed 11th in 24:58 and senior Emily Uhlig finished 14th. Evergreen placed fifth of six scoring teams.

The race was won by Jane Larson of Seattle Pacific University in 23:06; she pulled away for good heading into the second lap of the foot-challenging 3-loop course.

Evergreen's Brian Rakestraw led the men's team with his fourth-place finish in 26:52. Rakestraw was followed by senior Eric Jones (27:43) in 11th. Close on Jones' heels was senior Jason McConnell in 14th and a time of 27:47. The men placed fourth of six scoring teams.

St. Martin's senior John Riak defended his home meet title with a 12-second margin of victory. He ran 26:17 on the slightly over 8K course.

Next up on the schedule for Evergreen is the University of Portland Pier Park Classic next Friday.
