Two Owls Finish in Top 10 at Humboldt Invite Cross Country Meet
Final Results
TRINIDAD, Calif. — Depth proved essential in Humboldt States finish for both the Lumberjack men's and women's cross country teams Saturday, as they claimed victories in a three-way competition over both Fresno Pacific and Oregon Tech at Patrick's Point State Park.
The Lumberjack men scored 24 points, defeating both Fresno Pacific (36) and Oregon Institute of Technology (77). Freshman Andrew Sylvester led the way for HSU by placing second overall with a time of 26 minutes, 59 seconds on the 8-kilometer course. Benny Madrigal of FPU crossed the line first overall with a time of 26:46.00.
Oregon Tech’s Ben Baker was the first Owl over the finish line in a time of 27:56.0 followed by last years Cascade Conference champion, Korey Humberston, finishing the course in 28:12.0
In the women's race, HSU junior Megan Rolland raced to a first place finish with a time of 19:27 on the 5K course, pacing the HSU women to victory over the same opponents. Humboldt State scored 26 points, followed by Fresno Pacific with 44 and OIT with 60. Tech placed four runners in the top-15 with Rachael Novak crossing 6th overall in a time of 20:36.0 to lead the Owls. Tech’s Amber Sinacrope finished 8th in 20:45.0, followed by sophomore Statia Smith in 22:15.0 and Amanda McMillan clocking in at 22:32.0, good for 14th and 15th place.
The Owls will head to the Pioneer Open at McIver State Park in Estacada, Ore. on September 13th for their next action with the start scheduled for 9:00am.
