Concordia Starts Conference Volleyball Season with Second Sweep
PORTLAND, Ore.— For the second straight night the Concordia volleyball team made efficient work of a conference foe as the Cavaliers defeated Evergreen State 3-0 (25-18, 25-13, 25-12) at home on Saturday.
With the win, Concordia improved to 6-2 (2-0 CCC) while Evergreen State dropped to 0-6 (0-2 CCC).
Senior Lindsay Fryer led Concordia with nine kills while the sophomore duo of Raluca Dinca and Erika Doremus added seven kills. Skyler Kamaka guided the offense with 34 assists to lead the floor while Jamie Richards accounted for a team-high eight digs.
“It’s exciting that we have a team where everyone on the roster can walk on the floor and immediately contribute. It was a team effort and that showed tonight,” Concordia head coach Christopher Duenow said.
Kandice Gleaves led the Geoducks with 13 kills on 31 strikes. Teammate Katie Huston chipped in 21 assists and Ann Forman posted a match-high 10 digs.
For the match, the Cavaliers hit for a combined 49.4 conversion rate after committing just five attacking errors in 79 swings.
“All season long we have talked about being problem solvers. The team did a great job of identifying adjustments that we needed to make and acting on them as the match went on,” Duenow said.
Concordia returns to action in Sept. 9 when it hosts Corban College at 7 p.m.
