BOX SCORE

SALEM, Ore. – Despite an early goal and a game-high five saves by senior Karyn Allen (Merlin, Ore.), Corban's women's soccer team fell to the six-time defending Northwest Conference champion Loggers of Puget Sound, 6-1, Saturday afternoon on Warrior Field.

In its first game of the season against an NCAA Division II opponent and member of the Northwest Conference, Corban got on the board first when a UPS defender deflected the ball into the back of the Loggers' net in the third minute. Puget Sound's own goal gave the host Warriors an early 1-0 lead, but the slim lead would not last long.

Less than three minutes later, Puget Sound tied the game on a Janece Levien goal from 18 yards out into the upper right corner. The goal-scoring play began when Melissa Abellanida dropped a pass off to Levien, who rifled a shot past a diving Allen for the Loggers first of six unanswered goals.

The goal-scoring duo of Levien and Abellanida would strike again just over ten minutes later. This time, Abellanida sent a through ball past the Warriors' final line of defense onto an awaiting Levien who promptly poked the ball past Allen and into the lower left corner of the goal for what would turn out to be the game-winner.

Levien would turn around just over 30 minutes later and return Abellanida's favors, as Abellanida would score the half's final goal via a through ball that got behind the Warrior defense.

In the second half, Puget Sound would put three more goals on the board with the first coming via a penalty kick in the 54th minute off the foot of Jenny Moore. Just over eleven minutes later, UPS would score its fifth goal of the contest when Alyssa Renosto put home an Alyx Tilley deflection that caromed off a Warrior defender.

The game's final goal came in the 71st minute when Puget Sound's Mikaela Freeman received a drop pass from Moore that led to a wide-open goal. Moore began the play by dribbling past Corban's defense before going along the end line and dropping the ball off to an awaiting Freeman for the game's final tally.

Allen played all 90 minutes between the pipes for Corban en route to recording her game-high in saves. Meanwhile, Puget Sound used a trio of goalkeepers -- Kallie Wolfer, Katie Wheeler, and Sarah Krabacher -- to combine for a pair of saves in 90 minutes of action.

With the loss, Corban falls to 1-4-0 on the season while Puget Sound remains unbeaten at 2-0-0. The Warriors are back in action on Friday, September 12th, when they host Mills College beginning at 2:00 p.m. on Warrior Field.
