CCC Players of the Week Named for Sept. 1-7
The following Cascade Collegiate Conference student-athletes were recognized as conference Players of the Week in their respective sports for the period Sept. 1-7.
Men’s Soccer
Offensive – Defender Jon Larsen (Jr., Sedro-Woolley, Wash.) of Concordia is the CCC Offensive Player of the Week. Larsen registered three of CU’s eight shots on goal in last week’s 1-1 tie with No. 1-ranked Azusa Pacific, eventually scoring the equalizer in the 68th minute against the defending national champions. Defensive – College of Idaho goalie Aaron Reynolds (Fr., Boise, Idaho) was honored as the CCC Defensive Player of the Week after turning away 11 shots on goal in the Yotes’ scoreless tie with Whitman. Four of his saves came inside the six-yard box. It was the second consecutive shutout posted by Reynolds. Other nominees: Garrett Staples, GK, Concordia; Matt Stalnik, GK, Evergreen.
Women’s Soccer
Offensive – Lauren Robideau (So., Mt. Vernon, Wash.) of Eastern Oregon is the CCC Offensive Player of the Week. Robideau had a pair of goals in helping lead EOU to a 3-1 road victory over Northwest Nazarene in the Mounties’ season opener last week. Kate Green, Evergreen; Stacy Hamer, Southern Oregon; Justine Pronovost, Concordia.
Defensive – Eastern Oregon keeper Kalah Minter (So., Las Vegas, Nev.) was named the CCC Defensive Player of the Week after recording 16 saves as the Mounties split their opening two matches of the season. Minter had six saves in EOU’s 3-1 win over Northwest Nazarene and followed with a 10-save outing in a 1-0 loss to Rocky Mountain College. Other nominees: Sonya Daisley-harr, Evergreen; Jessica Kuehlwien, Southern Oregon.
Volleyball
Player – Jessica Lea (Fr., Prineville, Ore.) of Eastern Oregon was named the CCC’s Player of the Week after helping lead the Mounties to their first win over Southern Oregon in Ashland since 1986. Lea had 11 kills, 22 assists and 16 digs in the 3-1 victory over the 12th-ranked Raiders. She also had 15 kills and 30 assists in a 3-2 loss to Oregon Tech. Other nominees: Sarah Buhler, College of Idaho; Lindsey Fryer, Concordia; Krista Wooley, Oregon Tech.
Libero – Corban’s Rebecca Franke (So., Pendleton, Ore.) was named the CCC’s Libero of the Week after helping the Warriors to a 3-0 week. The defensive specialist registered a combined 67 digs in three matches. She has 162 digs in 27 sets this season, and leads the conference in average per set (6.00). Other nominees: Mercedes LeClaire, Northwest Christian; Maggie Rivers, Southern Oregon; Sareena Simpson, Eastern Oregon; Krystie Vea, Oregon Tech.
Setter – Lizzie Law (Sr., Kennewick, Wash.) of Oregon Tech earned CCC Setter of the Week recognition after totaling 91 assists in the Owls’ home sweep of Eastern Oregon and ninth-ranked College of Idaho. Law had 60 assists against EOU and followed with 31 assists against College of Idaho. Cross Country
Male – Northwest University’s Seth Bridges (Fr., Anderson Island, Wash.) is the CCC Male Runner of the Week. Running in his first collegiate race this past Saturday, Bridges finished second in a field of 71 runners comprised of teams from Simon Fraser, University of British Columbia, and Western Washington, among others. Bridges’ time of 26:32 in the 8K race at the Whatcom CC Orca Invitational ranks fifth on NU’s all-time list. Other nominees: Terry Johnsen, Eastern Oregon; Brian Rakestraw, Evergreen.
Female – College of Idaho’s Stephanie Helm (So., Challis, Idaho) picked up her second individual victory in besting a deep field at the Roger Curran Invitational in Nampa, Idaho. Helms beat the defending Western Athletic Conference champion, an NCAA Division II All-American from Northwest Nazarene, and the top runners from defending CCC champion Eastern Oregon. C of I finished second overall, just six points behind Boise State. Other nominees: Ana Casillas, Evergreen; Christine Eckestein, Eastern Oregon; Lindsey Wagner, Northwest.
