NEWBERG, Ore. – Capitalizing on a penalty kick opportunity midway through the second half, George Fox took advantage of the Oregon Tech foul to give the Bruins a hard-fought 1-0 win over the visiting Owls in a non-conference women’s soccer match Monday afternoon at Morse Field.

The Bruins maintained control of the game for the most part, out-shooting the Owls 24-9 overall and 11-4 in shots on goal, but were turned away repeatedly by Tech keeper Jaclyn Unruh, who had 10 saves. Bruin goalie Sally Page collected four saves.

The lone break in the defensive struggle finally came in the game’s 64th minute. The George Fox midfielder dribbled into the box from the right wing and was winding up for a shot when she was tripped by a Tech defender. GFU’s Jenny McKinsey took the penalty kick and lined it to the left of Unruh for the winner at 64:44.

Oregon Tech (1-6) will remain idle until Saturday, September 27, when the Owls will host conference opponent Northwest Christian College at 5:00 p.m.
