Tech Powers Past T-Birds
BOX SCORE
PORTLAND, Ore. - A miserable first half shooting effort by Cascade allowed Oregon Tech to post a 21 point half time lead and cruise to a 83-59 win in CCC play tonight.
The cold T-Bird shooting contributed to easy buckets for Oregon Tech (11-7, 4-5 CCC) who dropped in 45 points in the opening half. A Kelsey New jump shot pushed the Owl lead out to 19 points at the 8:53 mark. Cascade (8-6, 1-6 CCC) mustered an 11-3 run over the next five minutes to trim the lead to 11, but the Owls closed the half with a 12-2 burst of their own to extend the lead.
The T-Birds managed just a 20% clip (8 for 39) from the field in the first period, while the visiting Owls connected at just over 51% and built an insurmountable advantage. "We missed alot of shots we normally make, and OIT made us pay," said coach Matt Murphy.
The second half was a much better half for Cascade as they shot 15 of 31 and cut the lead down to 16 on two occasions, but timely shooting from Megan Miyasaka and Nicole Morgan kept the hosts at bay.
Kristina Schumacher led Cascade with 18 points and 6 assists, and Robin Swain added 13 points. Maya Gross grabbed 13 rebounds.
Five Owls registered double figures in the scoring column, with Lisa Busch at the top of the list with 16. Morgan led all players with 15 rebounds, as well as 15 points.
Cascade hosts Southern Oregon tomorrow night, while Oregon Tech heads to Warner Pacific as CCC play rolls on.
