LA GRANDE, Ore. - Eastern (11-5, 6-3 CCC) came out strong and took the lead early against the Cavaliers of Concordia University (16-2, 9-1 CCC). It wasn't until about 12 minutes into the game that the Cavaliers bounced back and tied the game at 14. With about 5 minutes left in the first half the Mounties regained the lead and control the offensive end the remainder of the first half.
Alyssa Garro stepped up and knocked down a shot from behind the arc at the buzzer to put the Mounties with a five point lead, 34-29 going into intermission.
Eastern came out the second half with intensity and took an early ten point lead, due to a 3 pointer by Kyle Miller; however, the Concordia didn't back down and tied the game at 41-41 with about 12 minutes to go in the game. The Cavaliers continued to go on their run and kept the Mountaineers scoreless for the next five minutes. It wasn't until Brianna Smith hit a 3 from behind the arc to get the Mounties offense going.
With about 5 minutes left in the game, Eastern got with in 1 point of Concordia, but couldn't take the lead. Concordia continued to answer on costly Mountaineer mistakes and took the largest lead of the game 48-55.
EOU came up short, falling to Concordia University 53-60.
Head Coach Anji Weissenfluh stated, "It came down to help side and turnovers tonight."
Brianna Smith led all with 15 points and teammate Kyle Miller added 13 points.
The Mountaineers are back in action for a make-up game against Cascade College (8-7, 1-7 CCC) Monday, January 19th at 5:30p.m. here at Quinn Coliseum.
