Klamath Falls, Ore. – A double-double 17 point and career-high 17 rebound effort by Oregon Tech’s Christian Cavanaugh helped lead the Oregon Tech men’s basketball team to a 72-59 win over Corban College tonight at Danny Miles Court.

The Owls improve their season record to 14-1 with the win and 4-1 in conference play. Corban College falls to 4-9 on the year and remains winless in the Cascade Conference with a 0-4 record.

Justin Parnell led the Owl attack with 19 points followed by Cavanaugh’s 17. Jguwon Hogges finished with 16 points on the night. Josh Wetzler, this week’s KDRV-KDKF Amateur Athlete of the Week, came down with a game-high 12 rebounds, six points and three assists.

Ian Logan led the Warriors in scoring with 17 points followed by Martin Clay with 13 and Ben Potloff knocking down 12 points in the losing effort.

After a sluggish first 10 minutes to the start of the game, both teams were knotted at only 14 points each. The home team then went on a 22-5 run to give the Owls some breathing room and a 36-19 lead heading to the locker room.

A 19-7 run to start the second stanza gave the Owls a 29 point cushion and their largest lead of the night at 55-26.

It was Corban who then started to battle, closing the deficit to 19 points with 5:41 left and then to only 12 points with still 4:20 on the clock. The Owls then scored the next four points and did not let the Warriors get any closer, as Tech went on to win by the final margin of 72-59.

Oregon Tech (14-1, 3-1) will host Concordia University (5-8, 0-4) in game two of their three-game home stand on Saturday, January 3rd with the tip-off set for 7:30 p.m.
