LA GRANDE, Ore. - The Mounties (7-3, 3-1 CCC) had control the entire first half, but the Beacons (5-9, 0-5 CCC) didn't back down. Northwest Christian's Elise Gray hit a 3 pointer at the buzzer to put the Beacons down by 1 going into intermission, 27-26.
Eastern came out with more energy the second half, while shooting 60 percent from the field and shooting 83 percent from the free throw line to overcome the Beacons 70-54.
Kyle Miller stepped up big tonight for the Mountaineers, leading with a game-high 16 points and 13 rebounds. Teammate Jenny Fiso added 14 points and 6 assists. Also in double figures, Ashlee Michelson and Salena Leavitt with 12 and 10 points respectively. Brianna Smith and Sasha Valdez chipped in 8 points apiece.
The Mounties will next travel down I-84 to face rival, College of Idaho (12-1, 3-0 CCC) on Tuesday, January 6, 2009 at 5:30 p.m. MST.
