SOU's defense has been key in the four-game winning streak.
ASHLAND, ORE - Winners of four straight on the road, the Southern Oregon women’s basketball team gears up for a home doubleheader this weekend.
The Raiders (15-4 overall, 7-3 Cascade Conference) will host Northwest (6-13, 4-6) on Friday and Evergreen (8-10, 3-7) on Saturday. Both games start at 5:30 p.m.
SOU defeated Evergreen Monday in a make-up game in Eugene.
“This weekend was our best weekend so far,” said SOU head coach Lynn Kennedy. “These were really big wins for us.”
With half of the season in the books, the Raiders will play the next six of the final 10 games at home.
“We will be at home, but we are going to have some tough games regardless,” said Kennedy. “The more minor adjustments we can make the better. We have got to keep our momentum going.”
The last time that the Raiders faced Northwest, SOU won by a mere eight points, but Kennedy said that his squad is even more ready for them this time around.
“Northwest has played well this year and they have won some tough games on the road, but we know that every game counts for us at this point.”
With senior starter Kellyn Cooper fighting off an injury, her playing time this weekend is still questionable, but her teammates are prepared to rally together.
“We’ve found ways to win games all year,” said Kennedy. “And we’ve gotten a lot better these last couple of weeks. Our offensive execution is better, and our defense has really stepped up. We’re ready to play.”
