ASHLAND, ORE - The Southern Oregon men’s basketball team shot 46 percent from the field and made some clutch free throws down the stretch to knock off Northwest University 68-55 tonight at McNeal Pavilion.

Southern Oregon has now won two in a row and improved to 7-13 overall and 5-6 in Cascade Conference play. Northwest fell to 10-10 overall and 4-7 in conference action. The two teams entered Friday night’s matchup tied for the final two playoff spots.

Junior Jarrad Childs led the Raiders with 19 points and Eli Thornton had 18. Humphrey Jackson had eight points and seven assists.

Eddie Coulson led Northwest with 15 points.

After Northwest took an early 8-6 lead, the Raiders quickly tied the game and led 30-26 at half and would never trail again.

A two-handed breakaway dunk by senior Josh McDermott gave SOU a 56-49 lead with 4:40 to play.

Northwest then began fouling the Raiders, one of the worst free throw shooting teams in the conference, at the 4:00 mark.

SOU responded by going 7 of 10 during that stretch and finishing off the game with a Thornton fastbreak dunk.

The Raiders have a rematch with 10th-ranked Evergreen State Saturday night at McNeal. The Raiders knocked off Evergreen Monday night.
