Cavs Complete Sweep of Beacons for Third Straight Win
PORTLAND, Ore.— Concordia limited Northwest Christen to just 24 percent shooting on the night as the Cavaliers defeated the Beacons 73-38 in Cascade Collegiate Conference women’s basketball action on Saturday night.
With the win, Concordia improved to 18-2 on the season and 11-1 in the CCC while NCU dropped to 7-14 overall and 2-10 in league action.
With eight games remaining, the Cavaliers have already matched its conference win total from a year ago and are within two wins of tying its highest overall win count in seven years as the 2000-02 squad went 20-10 on the year.
The Beacons took a quick 6-2 lead after a McKenzie Gambee layup, but a 7-2 streak by CU would give the Cavaliers its first lead of the night. A Calie McVicker bucket would cut the score to a single point with the score 9-8, but the Cavs once again charged forward, eventually reaching a double-digit lead, 27-17, with 7:17 to play in the half.
Concordia would double the advantage by the end of the period, holding the Beacons to five points down the stretch while amassing a 42-22 gap going into the locker room.
The Beacon attack would continue to be stifled in the second, accumulating just 16 points while firing at a 21 percent rate. Although not quite matching the first-half efficiency where the Cavs connected on 54 percent from the field, CU steadily increased its lead, ultimately taking its margin to 37 points before settling for the 35-point win.
Rebecca Gimeno led Concordia with 17 points while Ann Snodderly added 15 points in 16 minutes of play. The lone Beacon in double figures, Elise Gray led NCU with 13.
The Cavs outrebounded the Beacons 49-to-31 and posted 19 assists compared to just six for NCU.
