ASHLAND, ORE - The Southern Oregon men’s basketball team stayed with Evergreen State for most of the game, but at the end 10th-ranked Evergreen had too much firepower in a 96-82 victory tonight at McNeal Pavilion.

Evergreen snapped a two-game slide, including an 86-81 setback to SOU on Monday, and improved to 12-7 overall and 8-4 in Cascade Conference play. SOU fell to 7-14 overall and 5-7 in conference action.

Nate Menefee went 4-for-5 from 3-point land and had a game-high 20 points for Evergreen.

Humphrey Jackson had 14 points to lead five Raiders in double digits. Josh McDermott and Jarrad Childs both had 13 points, while Dustin Vaughn finished with 12 and Eli Thornton had 10.

The Raiders hung with Evergreen for most of the game, shooting 58 percent in the first half to trail Evergreen 43-39 at halftime.

A layup by McDermott cut the lead to 48-47 with 16:20 to play and the Raiders were either in the lead or the two teams were tied until Nick Moore’s jumper at 11:52 gave Evergreen a 61-59 lead.

After that the Geoducks were off and running as they had their biggest lead of the game at 90-73 with 2:07 to play in the game.

Evergreen State shot 64 percent in the second half and finished the game shooting 59 percent.

SOU had one its best shooting games of the season, finishing the game shooting 56 percent from the field.

The Raiders travel to the College of Idaho Friday night.
