Huge Second Half Gives Owls 84-65 Win

KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. (January 23, 2009)—Both the No. 7 ranked Hustlin’ Owls and No. 10 ranked Geoducks went to halftime tied, but it was all Oregon Tech in the second half, routing The Evergreen State College 84-65 tonight at Danny Miles Court.

Jguwon Hogges led the Owls with a game-high 25 points followed by Myles Daley with 19 points and seven rebounds. Josh Wetzler had career-high 19 rebound effort to go with his eight points, including 11 boards from the offensive end. Justin Parnell finished with 12 points, five rebounds and four assists.

Nate Menefee led the Geoduck attack with 22 points followed by Nick Moore hitting for 19 points and grabbing six rebounds. Steve Trotter grabbed a team-high eight rebounds and netted six points in the loss.

Evergreen held a 12-10 advantage at the 12:52 mark, before a Geoduck 12-2 run gave them a double-digit lead, 24-14, with 8:04 on the clock. The Owls were able to regain their composure and chip at the lead, eventually tieing the game and head to intermission deadlocked with the Geoducks 35-35.

The game went back-and-forth, including six ties in the second half, with the Owls only leading by two points at 55-53 with 11:51 to play. An 10-0 run put Tech up 65-53 with 7:33 to go and an ensuing 15-8 Owl rally put the game out of reach at 78-61 with just over three minutes remaining to play. Both teams traded points for the remainder, as the Owls settled for the final score of 84-65.

The Owls improve to 18-3 on the season and remain in the top spot in the Cascade Conference standings at 8-3. The Evergreen State College drops to 11-7 overall with the loss and 7-4 in conference play.

Oregon Tech hosts Northwest University on Saturday, January 24th, with the tip-off set for 7:30 p.m.
