Comeback Win For C of I Versus Cascade
BOX SCORE
PORTLAND, Ore. - Despite running out to a 18 point lead in the first half, Cascade fell at home 87-74 to nationally ranked College of Idaho in CCC play tonight.
The Thunderbirds (8-10 1-10 CCC) forged a 25-7 lead in the first ten minutes thanks to sharp passing and efficient shooting. The full court press by the Coyotes was ineffective and the T-Birds took advantage early. Kristina Schumacher found enough space to toss in 13 points in the period.
The visiting 'Yotes (20-1, 12-0 CCC) began to wake up and slowly took control, cutting their halftime deficit to four thanks to 9 points from Whitney Owen off the bench.
The host T-Birds did not roll over for the high powered C of I and held on to the lead until the 11:57 mark when Christon Vander Esch tied the game with a short jumper. C of I proceeded to push out to a 12 point advantage, before Cascade used a 9-2 capped by a Robin Swain three pointer run to climb within five at 2:50 to play.
C of I would make 10 of 12 freethrow attempts in the final minutes to dash any hope of a Cascade rally and win their 20th game in a row.
Cascade was led by Swain who hit for 30 points including a 10-11 effort at the line. Schumacher added 20 points and 6 assists.
The 'Yotes were paced by Owen who dropped in 23 points, while Vander Esch added 17.
