Lady Owls Pick Up 74-64 Win Over Eagles

Klamath Falls, Ore. – The Oregon Tech women’s basketball team hit for 51.0% from the floor (25-49), including 8-20 from long range and held the visiting Eagles to only 35.6% shooting, on their way to a 74-64 Cascade Conference win tonight over Northwest at Danny Miles Court.

The Lady Owls improve to 12-9 with the win and 5-7 in Cascade Conference play. Northwest University drops to 6-15 on the season and 4-8 in conference play.

Amanda Johnston led Tech with a team-high 17 points and six rebounds. Kellie Morey netted 16 points, followed by Lisa Busch with 13 in the victory. Meagan Miyasaka and Kelsi New each added eight points with Miyasaka dishing out five assists and New three.

Colleen Woods hit for a game-high 19 points and grabbed seven rebounds for the Eagles in the loss. Rachel Mitchell finished with 14 points, while McKenzie McKean and Erika Hornyak totaled nine points apiece.

Oregon Tech went on a 13-1 run to start the game, capped off by a Kelsey New 3-pointer with 13:12 remaining in the first half. The Owls, however, couldn’t shake the Eagles and when NU finished the half on a 9-0 run it was 31-28 Tech at the intermission.

Oregon Tech took control at the beginning of the second half, jumping to a quick 38-30 lead.

The Eagles then clawed back to within one point, on a Carleigh Newman trey, to make it 48-47 with 11:34 on the clock.

An ensuing 11-1 Tech run then pushed the lead to 59-48 and all but sealed the win. Both teams traded points, and NU could get no closer than seven, as Tech settled for the 74-64 victory.

Tech meets up with the Eastern Oregon Mountaineers on Friday, January 30th and the College of Idaho ‘Yotes on Saturday, January 31st. Both games can be heard live on KLAD AM 960. The game will air at 5:30 p.m. vs EOU and 4:30 p.m. at College of Idaho.
