Evergreen Upends T-Birds
BOX SCORE
PORTLAND, Ore. - Despite roaring to a 16-2 lead in the first 3 minutes of the game, Cascade could not hold off Evergreen State as the Geoducks fought back for a 73-69 win in CCC action tonight.
The early T-Bird lead lasted all of the first half but was trimmed to 33-30 on an Alex Saab score with three minutes to play. Cascade recovered to push the lead back out to 10 at the break thanks to a Kristina Schumacher jump shot.
Evergreen used the half-time talk well and promptly opened up the second period with a 12-0 run to take their first lead of the game. Not wanting to let the game slip away the Thunderbirds fought back to a 60-56 advantage at the 7:45 mark on two Schumacher free throws, but cold shooting down the stretch was the hosts' undoing as they scored just 9 more points the rest of the way.
The Geoducks' Kristi Aukland was a thorn in the T-Birds side with 24 points and 11 rebounds. Keisha McDonald added 16 points.
Schumacher paced Cascade with a game high 24 points, while Robin Swain added 16 points and 7 assists. The T-Birds won the rebounding battle 48-35, led by Amy Russell with 12.
