Lady Owl Comeback Falls Short
Klamath Falls, Ore. – The Oregon Tech women’s basketball team rallied from an 18 point second half deficit to tie the game, but it was the Cavaliers who scored the final four points of the game to take the victory 73-69 tonight at Danny Miles Court.
The loss dropped the Owls to 9-6 overall and 2-4 in Cascade Conference play. The Cavs ran their win streak to 12 straight and are now 12-1 on the season and remain perfect in the conference standings at 5-0.
The game went back-and-forth through the first 10 minutes of play until a Concordia 17-5 run gave the visiting team a comfortable 35-21 lead with 4:43 remaining in the half.
The Owls were able to chip away and cut the lead to nine points, but an Angela Gimeno 3-point field goal would close out the first half scoring, as Tech went to intermission trailing 42-30.
Concordia held on to a double-digit lead and eventually pushed it to 18 points, their largest of the game, going ahead 61-43 with 11:53 to play.
The Owls then came alive on a 9-0 run to cut the deficit to 61-52 with 7:53 on the clock. Back-to-back 3-pointers by Lisa Busch and Nicole Morgan then cut the Cav lead to only four points with just over three minutes remaining.
Both teams traded points over the next couple of possessions until another Owl 3-pointer, this time by Kellie Morey, tied the game at 69-69 with just 56 ticks to play.
A Concordia missed jumper then gave the Owls a chance to take the lead, but an errant Owl pass turned into a turnover and layup that put the Cavs on top 71-69.
A Tech 15-footer to tie then fell short, and a Concordia rebound and Owl foul sent Sarah Eischen to the foul line where she sank both shots to seal the game 71-69.
Kellie Morey scored a career-high 24 points on 9-10 from the field. Amanda Johnston knocked down 13 points and grabbed eight rebounds, followed by Nicole Morgan with 10 points and eight rebounds. Meagan Miyasaka finished with four points, six rebounds and a game-high 10 assists.
Concordia had four players in double-figures, led by Maryam Razavi with 18 and Angela Gimeno with 15 points. Danielle Clauson finished with 13 points, while Rebecca Gimeno hit for 12 points.
The Owls will finish up their three-game homestand on Tuesday, January 6th, when arch-rival Southern Oregon heads to Danny Miles Court. The tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m.
